Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Jeepney Magazine?

The Jeepney Magazine is a street magazine modeled after the 200 plus street magazines in the world. Street papers are independent newspapers and magazines that provide unique employment opportunities.

There are all kinds of street papers in Manila, why yours?

Not like this. This is the only magazine published to communicate the voice of the poor and where all the post investment profits go to the vendors and the socially excluded.

How does it work?

Homeless vendors buy a copy of the magazine at a price 50% lower than the cover price and sell it to the public, keeping the proceeds. The Jeepney magazine sells for 100pesos. Our vendors make a 100 percent profit.

Does it work?

“Street papers can be successful in any urban area in the world where there is both poverty and a critical mass of socially conscious people with disposable income willing and able to purchase a street paper”. (INSP Website) (street-papers.org)

Where else are street magazines sold?

Over 200 cities including New York, London, Chicago, Munich, Vienna, Amsterdam, Oslo, St. Peterburg, Stockholm, Glasgow, Melbourne, Athens, Milan…

Who can be a vendor?

Our vendors need to be making less than minimum wage. They have to be a street dweller or squatter. They must be eighteen years or older unless they are sixteen and the family bread winner. Our vendors are the segment of the population who have no opportunity. This gives them one.

Can I help?

Yes! “When you buy a street paper. You do much more than contribute to the vendor’s chances of escaping homelessness. You are helping finance a support system for many more excluded people, something that giving spare change to a beggar simply does not do.” (BBC)

So yes, buy a Jeepney.
