The Organization
Two of the most recent projects in Manila, addressing the issue of homelessness and poverty are being organized by Urban Opportunities for Change Foundation. Urban Opportunities was founded November 2007 to publish the first “street paper” in developing Asia and organize the Philippine Homeless World Cup Team.
William and Deborah Shaw are the co-founders of Urban Opportunities. They are an American couple whose goal is to make a difference in the lives of poor and homeless Filipinos. They are self-supported business and social entrepreneurs, who have a goal to establish a sustainable non-profit organization.
The two projects the UOFC organizes are different in approach, but similar in their end result. They provide a platform, through hard work and opportunity, to bring positive change to peoples lives.
The International Network of Street Papers: INSP is a global engine for local poverty solutions across the world. It connects and supports nearly 100 street paper projects in 40 countries, to create employment for homeless people. www.street-papers.org. UOFC is a member of the International Network of Street Papers.
The Homeless World Cup organizes social development projects, using football as a catalyst for change, culminating in an annual International Tournament. www.homelessworldcup.org. UOFC is recognized by the Homeless World Cup to organize the national Philippines Homeless Team and establish a social impact using football.
Urban Opportunities is partnering with businesses, governments and individuals to provide a new beginning for those trapped in poverty. We would appreciate an opportunity to meet with you to present in more details the goals of our organization.
